Overview
This article explains how to use Aqua for Azure cost optimisation. The following features are available for Azure:
Instance Usage — Displays RI coverage rate
Instance Reservation Management — RI management
Recommendations — RI purchase recommendations
Instance size optimisation (coming soon)
Scheduling (coming soon)
Instance Usage
The Instance Usage page displays your overall usage cost broken down into on-demand usage and Reserved Instance coverage rate.
By monitoring your overall coverage rate, you can keep track of on-demand usage that still has room for cost reduction.
Example: If you set a KPI of maintaining 70% RI coverage for a target service, you can monitor this continuously from the Instance Usage page and consider purchasing additional RIs whenever coverage drops below 70%.
Instance Reservation Management
The Instance Reservation Management page lets you view detailed information about your purchased RIs, including:
Utilisation rate
Usage cost reduced during the target period
On-demand usage cost reduced during the target period
Savings rate during the target period
Azure Customer ID of the purchasing account
Target service
Instance type
Purchase date
Expiry date
Total savings amount
Use the metrics on this page to monitor whether purchased RIs are being applied effectively, evaluate their cost reduction impact, and inform future RI purchase decisions.
Recommendations
The Recommendations page displays RI purchase suggestions based on your current on-demand usage. Aqua calculates recommendations using the minimum on-demand usage hours over the past 30 days.
Results are displayed per Azure Customer ID, so if you manage multiple Customer IDs, you can review and compare all recommendations in one place.
Filter conditions:
Condition | Options |
Subscription | Select the target subscription |
Scope | Single resource or group / Subscription / Shared scope / Management group |
Region | Select the target region |
VM size | Select the Virtual Machine size |
Optimisation target | Select the target for optimisation |
Term | Select the RI term |
Quantity | Specify the quantity |
Apply these filters to narrow down and review the RIs available for purchase.
