Overview
This guide walks through enabling Guaranteed Commitments for a client in Ripple. The Guaranteed Commitment Manager has two tabs that work in sequence:
Payer Settings — where you configure and verify each payer account.
Service Management — where you toggle Guaranteed Commitments on or off per billing group.
A payer account must reach Verified status in Payer Settings before any billing group under it can be enabled in Service Management.
Before You Begin
Make sure the following are already in place in Ripple:
✓ The client's payer account is registered under Settings > Payer Account Settings.
No registered payer accounts yet? → Refer to Ripple – Payer Account Registration (AWS CloudFormation) or Ripple – Payer Account Registration if you are setting up a payer account using either AWS CloudFormation or manual setup.
✓ A billing group containing that payer account exists under Account/Group > Billing Groups.
No billing groups yet? → Please refer to Ripple - Create a Billing Group for guided steps.
If either isn't set up yet, complete those first before continuing.
First Time Here?
Click Get Started |
Navigate to Commitment > Guaranteed Commitment Manager. |
If this is your first time accessing the page, you'll see a brief overview of the feature. Click Get Started to proceed. |
This takes you to the main view with two tabs: Payer Settings and Service Management. You only need to do this once. |
Step 1: Check Payer Status in Payer Settings
Check Payer Status |
Navigate to Commitment > Guaranteed Commitment Manager > Payer Settings. |
This tab lists all payer accounts and their current status. Look up your client's payer account: |
Ready to set up → proceed to Step 2. |
Setup in progress → click Configure to resume the wizard. |
Setup error → click Configure to retry. Contact Alphaus Support if the issue persists. |
Needs Ripple Setup → the Configure button is not clickable. Go to Settings > Payer Account Settings, complete the payer registration, then return here. |
Verified → payer is already onboarded. Skip to Step 3. |
Step 2: Configure the Payer Account
Configure the Payer Account |
Click Configure on a payer showing Ready to set up. This opens the onboarding wizard. |
Billing Account
Enter Billing Account |
Enter the 12-digit AWS account ID for the payer (management) account — not a linked account. |
Important: Using a linked account ID will cause setup to fail. |
Choose your installation method. Currently, CloudFormation is available. |
Installation
Install the CloudFormation Stack |
Click "Launch in AWS Console" to open the CloudFormation stack creation screen. |
Review the stack parameters. Keep all default values unless instructed otherwise. |
In the Capabilities section, acknowledge the required IAM capabilities, then click Create Stack. |
Wait for the stack status to show CREATE_COMPLETE — this typically takes 2–5 minutes. |
Return to the Ripple setup page to continue. |
⚠️ Common issue: If the stack fails, check that the IAM user or role has cloudformation:CreateStack, iam:CreateRole, and related permissions. Insufficient permissions are the most frequent cause of failure. |
Verify
Verify Installation |
Click "Verify installation" to confirm the required permissions are correctly set up. |
Make sure the CloudFormation stack shows CREATE_COMPLETE before clicking Verify. |
Cost Explorer
Enable AWS Cost Explorer |
Click "Check Status" to confirm Cost Explorer is enabled. |
If not enabled: click "Open AWS Cost Explorer", sign into the master billing account, go to Cost Management > Cost Explorer, and activate it. Return to Ripple and click Check Status again. |
💡 Note: Cost Explorer data can take up to 24 hours to populate after first activation. If Check Status returns an error right away, wait and retry. |
CUR
Connect the Cost and Usage Report (CUR) |
Select "Generate a New CUR" and click Proceed. |
Click "Verify / Generate CUR" to trigger verification. If it already shows "Available," continue. |
💡 Note: AWS may take up to 24 hours to generate a new CUR. You can safely leave this page and return later to recheck. |
Complete
Onboarding Complete |
Once the CUR is connected, onboarding is complete. |
Expect an email with analysis results within 24–48 hours. |
The payer account status in Payer Settings will now show Verified. |
Step 3: Enable the Billing Group in Service Management
Enable the Billing Group |
Navigate to Commitment > Guaranteed Commitment Manager > Service Management. |
This tab lists all billing groups. Locate the client's billing group and click its Enabled toggle. |
A confirmation modal will appear — "Enable Commitment Feature?" — click Enable. |
The system will check the billing group before proceeding: |
No payer accounts or linked accounts found → error. Fix the billing group first. |
Payer not yet Verified → toggle cannot be enabled. Complete Step 2 first. |
Resource Type is Tag → toggle is grayed out. Tag-based billing groups are not supported yet. |
Once enabled, the client can access the Commitment Planner and Commitment Inventory in WavePRO. |
To Disable Guaranteed Commitments
Navigate to Commitment > Guaranteed Commitment Manager > Service Management and toggle off the billing group. The Guaranteed Commitments feature will no longer be available in the client's WavePRO.
