Wave – IP Address Restriction Guide

How to configure IP address-based access control in Wave.

Written by Alphaus Support Team

Overview

Wave provides IP address-based access control to help prevent unauthorised access and strengthen your security policy. This guide explains how to configure the IP address restriction feature in Wave.

What is IP Address Restriction?

This feature allows you to control access based on the connecting IP address — for example, restricting access to your internal network or specific office locations.

Key capabilities:

  • Whitelist / Blacklist modes

  • Apply restrictions to the root user or specific sub-users

  • CIDR format supported

  • Multiple IP addresses can be configured

Step 1: Access the IP Settings Screen

  1. Log in to Wave.

  2. From the left side menu, select Preferences

  3. Click IP Configuration

Step 2: Add an IP Filter

  1. Click + Add IP in the top right of the screen

  2. Enter the IP address or CIDR range (e.g. 192.168.1.0/24)

  3. Select the filter type:

    • Whitelist (recommended) — Only allows access from the specified IP addresses

    • Blacklist — Blocks access from the specified IP addresses

  4. Select the scope:

    1. Pattern A — Apply to root user only: Select Root user only (your account only)

    2. Pattern B — Apply to specific sub-users: Select Specific sub-users (select sub-user) — an input field for the sub-user ID will appear. Enter the target sub-user ID.

  5. Click Add Filter to save

Step 3: Edit or Delete an IP Filter

Existing IP filters can be edited or deleted from the menu on the right side of the filter list.

  • Edit — Update the settings and click Update Filter to save

  • Delete — Remove the filter

Feature Details

Whitelist / Blacklist

  • Whitelist (recommended): Only allows access from specified IP addresses and blocks all others. Recommended when security is a priority.

  • Blacklist: Blocks access from specified IP addresses and allows all others.

Scope Options

  • Root user only — Applies IP restrictions to the main account only

  • Specific sub-users — Applies IP restrictions to the specified sub-user account(s)

Multiple IP Addresses

Multiple IP addresses or CIDR ranges can be registered and managed simultaneously.

Adding New Sub-users

When a new sub-user is added and you want to apply existing IP restrictions to them:

  1. Open the IP Settings screen

  2. Edit the existing IP filter via the menu

  3. Add the new sub-user's ID under the scope and save

Alternatively, you can create a new IP filter and assign it to the new sub-user directly.

Important Notes

Only the main (root) user can configure these settings. Sub-users do not have access to the IP Settings screen and cannot make changes.

Always include your own current IP address when setting up a whitelist. If your own IP is not included, you may lose access to Wave after saving the settings.
