Overview

This guide walks you through the specification changes to Ripple's invoice settings in response to AWS's updated support plan structure. Following AWS's announcement in December 2025, Ripple now supports both the legacy and new support plans, allowing you to select and calculate either within Ripple.

  • Purpose: Expand AWS support plan options in Ripple's invoice settings and implement the corresponding calculation logic

  • Applicable from: January 2026 usage onwards

  • Legacy plan end date: January 1, 2027 (as announced by AWS)

What Changed

Overview of Changes

New AWS support plans have been added as selectable options in Ripple's invoice settings screen, in addition to the existing legacy plans. Administrators can now reflect the most appropriate plan for each AWS account directly in Ripple.

Background

In December 2025, AWS announced a major revision to its support plans. New plans integrating AI features (such as Business Support+ and the new Enterprise Support) were introduced, along with updated pricing structures.

While some plans have seen price increases due to expanded features, most plans are expected to be more cost-effective. This appears to be driven by AWS's goal of reducing support costs through AI-powered efficiency improvements.

Impact on Ripple Settings

  • Existing settings: Accounts configured with legacy support plans will retain their current settings and can continue to use them

  • New settings: New plans will be added as selectable options in the dropdown menu

Calculation Logic

Support fee calculations follow AWS's official specifications. For tiered pricing plans, different rates are applied to each usage tier and the total is compared against the minimum fee.

For details on the new plans, please refer to the AWS official pricing page.

Important Notes

⚠️ Customising the Calculation Method

Support fee calculations in Ripple are implemented in accordance with AWS's official pricing tables. If you require customisations that differ from the standard specifications — such as changes to the minimum fee or specific rate adjustments — please contact Alphaus directly. Self-service modification of the calculation logic is not available.

ℹ️ Usage-Type Charges

For new plans, charges that are categorised as Usage type will be reflected in Adjusting Entries in the same way as legacy support fees.

If no settings are configured, charges will be displayed directly in the invoice line items.

This follows the same logic as legacy support fees — no additional setup is required on your end.

ℹ️ Mid-Month Plan Changes

If your AWS support plan is changed mid-month, AWS may calculate charges on a pro-rata basis. This applies to transitions from legacy to new plans as well, meaning both plans' charges may appear in the same month.

Please note that Ripple's invoice settings do not support pro-rata calculations, so please be mindful of the timing when making plan changes.

Steps to Switch to a New Plan

After changing your support plan on the AWS side, you will also need to update the settings in Ripple.

  1. Confirm that the plan change has been completed in the AWS Management Console

  2. Before the next billing calculation in Ripple, go to the Account/Group > Billing Groups > Invoice Settings, select the new support plan, and save

  3. If an invoice has already been created, update the settings from the Invoice Management screen and complete step 2 — the new plan will be applied to the current and all future invoices

FAQ

Q1. Is it mandatory to migrate from a legacy plan to a new plan?

No, not at this time. Legacy plans can continue to be used until January 1, 2027.

Q2. How do I request a change to the calculation method (e.g. adjusting the minimum fee)?

This cannot be handled through standard features. Please contact your Alphaus representative directly for assistance with custom configurations.

Q3. Can you explain more about charges categorised as Usage type?

Some support fees (those calculated as usage-based charges rather than minimum fees) are treated as "Usage" within the system, in the same way as EC2 or S3 charges.

Q4. If I have multiple AWS accounts, can I change the settings all at once?

Yes. Please contact Alphaus and we will handle the bulk update for you.
